Pepper House Cafe, Calvathy Road
The Pepper House Cafe is housed in a colonial style building which was an actual pepper warehouse during the Portuguese Era. Plus, they have a small library, a museum and of course, some great food. We suggest you try their Grilled Aubergine. And yes, it sounds really fancy until you realise ‘aubergine’ is just the french word for our ‘brinjals’.
Must-try: Passion Fruit Lemonade, Ravioli, Brownies
Address: Pepper House, Kalvatty Road, Fort Kochi, Kochi
Timings: 10 AM – 7 PM
Cost for Two: 500 INR
Loafers Corner Cafe, Fort Nagar
Loafers Corner Cafe is located on Princess Street. This street is believed to be the first one that came up in Fort Kochi. But the cafe is so popular, the street is often called the Loafers Corner. So if anyone gives you a hard time because you are a “loafer”, tell them that there’s an entire street dedicated to your tribe.
Must-try: Chocolate Cake, Omelette, Hot Chocolate
Address: Princess Street, Fort Kochi
Timings: 8.30 AM – 8 PM
Cost for Two: 400 INR
Kashi Art Cafe, Burgher Street
Without a doubt, the Kashi Art cafe is one of the best cafes in Kochi. The cafe houses an art gallery and is a regular hotspot for artists, painters, and sculptors. On top of it, it serves delicious pastries too. Which are no less than any piece of art you’ll find at this place.
Must-Try: Bacon Sandwich, Tuna Sandwich
Address: Burgher Street, Fort Kochi
Timings: 8.30 AM-10 PM
Cost for Two: 600 INR
East India Cafe, Bazaar Road
‘East India Cafe Fort Kochi’ is quite popular for both tourists and locals. And like the Pepper House Cafe, it is housed in an old warehouse too. Except, this one’s from the British era. Probably why it’s styled like a typical London coffee bar. An evening at this cafe would transport you straight into a P.G Wodehouse novel for sure.
Must-Try: French Toast, Hot Chocolate
Address: Plot 272, M.I.G Housing Society, 11th Cross Road, Panampilly Nagar, Kochi
Timings: 11 AM – 9 PM
Cost for Two: 700 INR
Qissa Cafe, KB Jacob Road
The Qissa Cafe is known for its elegant ambiance. Believe it or not, the cafe is nestled beneath the canopy of an age-old rain tree. On top of it, the interiors are clean with white backdrops. And plenty of aesthetic decorates. So yes, it’s a very fancy experience. Perhaps even fancier than the classmates who bought two sets of crayon sets back in your school days.
Must-Try: Banoffee Pie, Carrot Cake
Address: Number 18, KB Jacob Road, Fort Kochi, Kochi
Timings: 9.30 AM – 7.30 PM
Cost for Two: 400
Mocha Art Cafe, Jew Town
Not many cafes in Kochi are as quaint as the Mocha Art Cafe. The decor includes dutch style windows, a beautiful vertical garden, and old-school furniture. And again, it was once an old warehouse dating back to the 16th century. Basically, Coachinites are even more fascinated with empty warehouses than bank robbers in every heist movie ever.
Must-Try: Shakshuka, Chicken Schnitzel
Address: 6/127, Opposite Jew Synagogue, Mattancherry, Kochi
Timings: 11.30 AM – 7.30 PM
Cost for Two: 1000 INR
Downtown Cafe, Panampilly Nagar
Downtown Cafe Kochi is quite popular. And it serves the best continental cuisine in town. On top of it, the ambiance of the place is something you’ll want to enjoy on a date. We suggest you order their signature main course, Huevos Rancheros. And since none of us know how to pronounce it, it can be a great conversation starter with your new date. No thanks needed!
Must-Try: Coconut Wings, Hueves Rancheros
