Yes, your prospective PG must offer a fully furnished room. Not semi-furnished, not half-furnished but a proper one. And you know why we’re stressing on this? It’s because most local PG owners just have a bed plus mattress and still call it “fully” furnished. Ideally, your room should have an AC, a study table plus chair, and a cupboard too. So keep that in mind.

Daily meals

Food is a super important part of your PG life. Especially if you’re from another part of the country and living far away from your hometown. Because after a while, you’d start feeling homesick and maybe even physically uncomfortable if you’re not getting the right portion size or quality of meals. So make sure you ask a million questions about it to the PG owner and also, if you can, talk to existing tenants to get a bit of insider info.

Laundry

If you think you won’t need a laundry service and you can pull it off on your own, you might be underestimating the hecticness of corporate life. We mean, you can take care of it but you’ll end up wasting your weekend for it. Plus, the laundromats aren’t too cheap either. So it’s fair to expect a common washing machine in your PG. Period.

Cleaning and maintenance

So when you go for a property visit, make sure you’re looking for any signs that might suggest otherwise. Safety matters. Both for you as well as your parents. So that’s another thing you need to be mindful about when you go PG-hunting. For example, just an old security guard won’t do. The PG must ensure that not anyone and everyone can come and go without checking in on the entry gate. On top of that, also have a conversation about safety hazards or what protocols they’d follow during emergencies.
