Here’s some news, you can’t go really bonkers when you colive with a bunch of other folks. Yep, sorry. Because as much as moving away from your hometown means grabbing the ticket to freedom, it also comes with a few responsibilities. Think of it like this. When you visit your dad’s colleague’s house, you don’t casually put a foot on top of their center table and munch on pakoras, do you? Nope. So even though coliving spaces are not nearly as formal as your dad’s colleague’s house, you still have boundaries to maintain.
And in a hostel room, not putting your shoe on your roomie’s study table is just one of the things you’ve got to follow. We’ll tell you about the rest. Because we, at Stanza Living, manage more than 450+ residences in 24+ cities for young migrants like you. So we know everything about co-living, including, of course, the dos and don’ts for tenants. Now, without further ado, scroll down and read on about your responsibilities as a tenant. So you don’t get pushed out as quickly as pakoras disappear from a plate on a rainy evening.
Responsibilities you have to take up while living in a co-living space or hostel room in 2022 are:

Well, this one’s more for your well-being than others. What we mean here is that your first responsibility as a tenant is towards yourself. Because you’ve got to know the terms of your rental agreement to avoid any altercation with your landlord. Say, they’ve asked you to pay for the water bill. And you didn’t have any idea about that before. In that case, having all the necessary info covered in your mind will help you bury any potential arguments. Btw, this is a lesson that flat-earthers never learned. But they’re stupid. So…
If you’re in a professionally managed space (like Stanza Living), your daily room cleaning will be covered. Or if you’ve hired a house help in a shared flat, then that’s covered too. But we’re not talking about that. We’re saying you still have to maintain basic hygiene (both personal and space) as you’re sharing a place with other people. And if you think that’s too much to ask, imagine walking up to an empty toilet and witnessing someone having left their mark. Ewwwwww, sowie.
Once you’ve read the rules and regulations of the coliving space, try and respect them after you move in. Sure, if your rental space has a night curfew, that can be annoying. But do your due diligence and make sure you inform your landlords beforehand if you are going to be late. Because won’t it be annoying for your landlord to wake up and come open the gates for you? Yes. And trust us, if you do that one too many times, it’s gonna start causing problems slowly but surely.
It’s not every day that you find the time to party amidst your hectic schedule. We get that. Though you also have to consider that your next-door tenants might have a test coming up the next day. Or worse, they might have just gone through a terrible heartbreak. So if you’re out there playing Channa Mereya on loudspeakers, then please don’t. Unless you’re going through one yourself and wanna share your miseries from two doors apart.
Remember how your mum taught you to be considerate towards others on the first day of school? Well, it’s time to apply that here again. In a co-living space, it’s all about keeping the right atmosphere and building a close-knit community. But even if you don’t want to do the latter, make sure to still be considerate. Otherwise, you’re as good as that seal (from that random Youtube video) who keeps scaring the kids by jumping on them. Minus the cuteness, of course.
