Living in a co-living space might often mean not being able to buy that gigantic lampstand. Or storing that humongous teddy bear from your special someone. But with some clever use of space, you can store all other things pretty neatly. For starters, don’t forget to utilize the space under your bed or the space above your cupboard. And for the rest of the tiny stuff, we recommend buying a few storage boxes or collapsible drawers from any online marketplace. But here’s the most important tip – stop hoarding. Leave that to your mum, cuz she’s an expert at making good use of useless things in the house (nope, we’re not talking about you).
Sure, the co-living space you’re put up in (like Stanza Living) might just take your laundry to the washing machine every other day. But in the meantime, make sure to buy a laundry basket. It’ll keep the clutter out of your room and build a practice where you don’t mix up your laundry items. Otherwise, imagine if your office decides to throw a surprise party, and all you have left in your wardrobe is that one shirt your distant aunt gifted you before you left home. The one that’s more oversized than a hip-hop artist’s T-shirt and comes minus the drip.
Forget everything else, if you’re sharing a room with someone, setting up boundaries is the important favor you can do for yourself. That might include allocating specific areas of the room to keep each other’s stuff. Or a no-touch rule when it comes to your study table. Or asking them not to litter the room with their socks, belts, and whatnot. Again, don’t take these things lightly. Or else, there’s soon gonna be a lot of tension in the room. Kinda like when your ex and your current date get invited to the same party by your mutual friends.
When you’re sharing a room with a roomie, or two, or three, your bed and work table are often the only things you can call entirely your own. So needless to say, keeping them clutter-free can keep your head clutter-free too. Also, we know pulling off all-nighters might mean leaving your notebooks and stationeries all over the place and leaving for college. So make sure you avoid that and come back home to a workstation so pleasing, that it makes you want to put up a #workmode story on Insta.
Most PGs will just serve you two full meals a day, or three at best. Of course, not when it’s Stanza Living where you have a cafe menu too. But Stanza or not, you should always have a snack box ready with your fav munchies and a couple of packaged beverages. Because like unsolicited virtue-signaling replies on your social media posts, you never know when you’re gonna be bombarded with your cravings.
Here are the best tips to stay organized while co-living:
First things first, make sure you see them as a friend rather than a stranger you’re sharing a room with. Second, set up a few ground rules with them to avoid conflicts in the future. And lastly, make it a point to share whenever you’ve ordered something to eat or cooked for yourself. But having said that, sometimes it’s alright not to. Though, when you follow the concept of sharing, living with a roomie becomes way easier.
