Think what took you to reach the property

You might end up going to a property that’s as perfect as the Castle appearing at the beginning of Disney movies. But it’s no good if you gotta cross rivers and mountains to reach it. Simply put, if the location of the PG isn’t convenient to travel to your office or college, then you should take a U-turn asap. ASAP.

Check the ventilation, build, and the layout of the space

After you’ve entered the doors of the actual space, check everything. Look if there’s anything weird about the layout. Or if there are not many ways for the air to move in and out of the room.

Also, here’s something you might miss out. Sometimes the quality of concrete is so poor, small bits and pieces of the wall surface might come off. That is, every time you close or open a door a bit harder than usual. In another case, sometimes the walls might absorb so much moisture, it ruins your hope of decorating the walls. So don’t forget to check these kinda things

Check the furniture

Now, if it’s a furnished room you’re viewing, then check the build of the furniture. For example, if you see a sofa, sit on the sofa. And you’ll know if the springs are actually good enuf to call it a sofa. The same goes for electrical appliances such as a refrigerator or a washing machine too. In short, look at the furniture with the same scrutinizing eyes of an aunt who is visiting your house and happens to dislike your mum too. Lmao.

Verify the list of amenities offered

So if the listing of the property mentioned a hot water supply, check if the geyser actually works. But not with your own hands, of course. This way, you’ll get to decide if the place – all amenities combined – actually justifies the asking rent of the PG owner.

Make sure you talk to the landlord

Let’s say, you do all of these things right, but if you don’t talk to the landlord, you’ll still be a sorry case. Because the thing is, the furniture and amenities might be good, but you also need to know about the house rules, the repair policies and etcetera, etcetera. And after all this, if the conversation with the landlord also goes well, then, ummm, say hello to your new home. That’s all.
