Everyone’s got a very, very strong opinion about hostel food, don’t ya think? Yep. Either they hate it so much they’ll run to the other room to cry about it. Or they love it so much, that they’ll talk about it after years and years of moving out of the hostel (mostly when KK’s ‘Yaaron Dosti’ plays and there’s a bonfire involved). But no matter the kind of PG you choose. The messy food will never come close to the meals you’re used to eating made by your mum.
But hey, you know that already. And that’s probably why you came running to learn about the ways to eat clean while living in a PG/hostel. No worries tho. We’re here to help you out, bro. Because that’s what we do – make lives easier for you at our 450+ Stanza Living residences across 24+ cities. At our co-living spaces, we provide you with homely meals that are not only super duper yummy but are also customizable as per your needs. So you don’t have to run to the other room when the word ‘hostel food’ comes up even during your late 30s. Please.
Let’s face it, when you’re living in a PG, you can’t be too choosy when it comes to the mess of food. The most you can expect is to get basic decent meals, right? Yes. So we’ve made these suggestions keeping that in mind below:
Looking for a place that serves yum daily meals and offers cafe food too? Just check out our Stanza Living co-living spaces. |
We know the fact that you’re living in a PG is because your life is too hectic to cook your own meals every day. So since you won’t have a kitchen of your own, you’d not have much control over your lunch and dinner. And It’s why breakfast is your chance to incorporate a bit of healthy into your daily meals.
So if it suits you well, you can skip the oily breakfast from your PG. And learn healthy breakfast recipes that don’t require a stove to prepare. This way, you’d at least have control over one-third of your daily diet. And sometimes, one-third is more than good enough. Like the story of even one of the three characters from ZNMD would be good enough, no?
You see, we’re no nutritionists or health experts, but one thing we can say for sure is this. When you’re living in a PG, it’s easy to become dependent on Maggi, fried chips, and tons of other processed foods for your snack time. So instead, you can replace those with fruit bowls, nuts, or nutritious things like boiled lentils. Again, we’re no health experts. But there are aplenty on Youtube. To subscribe to them. The proper ones, we mean, not the ‘let’s fake it till we make it’ kind.
Going back to our point, yes you won’t have access to a gas stove in a PG, but you may have other things to make use of. Most PGs have an induction, a fridge or at least an electric kettle for the common use of all residents. So we suggest you exploit them to your benefit and do meal preps for yourself. Gotta make do with whatever we have, don’t we? Refer to Remy in Ratatouille for inspiration.
Day one. You get served runny dal. So you order Hakka noodles from your phone. Day two. The dal is better, but you’re looking for something spicier as a second dish. So you order a super oily chicken masala. Then comes day three, day four, and so on. The point is once you start doing this, it’s hard to go back. Of course, we’re not saying you should not have it all. But it doesn’t hurt to let go of a thing or two for your own sake, no?
Now, now, we know all this is pretty much easier said than done. So you can set daily reminders and maintain charts to keep yourself accountable. Plus, you can reward yourself with a cheat day or two to keep yourself motivated too. But, but, but….
If you think you don’t have the mind space to manage all this, then chuck the ordinary PGs and move to any of our Stanza Living residences. Here, the food’s homely. It’s prepared in certified kitchens by expert chefs. And the fact that we offer loads of amenities like common cooking appliances, you can go a bit DIY too. Sounds good, doesn’t it?
No matter where you live and how you can always take small steps to keep yourself healthy. For starters, these are a few steps to practice while living in a PG:
A weird combination of words to put together, but okay, Google will get what you mean. And it’ll show you a ton of online rental listings. If that does not work out for you, search for managed co-living spaces. Ask friends or spread the word on your social media. Or in the worst-case scenario, hire a broker to find a PG with decent food for yourself.
Also, these ways not only work for boys’ PGs but for girls’ PGs too. Or should we say ‘PG near me for ladies with food’ lol.
Just pack these items and you should be fine for your first week in a PG:
