Before we take out our plasma guns and shoot some popular myths about co-living, first let’s get this thing out of the way i.e. it’s spelled ‘co-living’ and not co-living. While your friends live the best years of their lives on bean bags playing Xbox.
Here you go. These are the myths we’re gonna bust today:
Looking for places with customizable meals and professional housekeeping? Move into a co-living space by Stanza Living. |
Ok, this is the most common myth we hear. Whenever someone says ‘coliving space’, a lot of people just think about bunk beds and 10-12 people staying together in a dorm. But that’s not the case at all. In fact, there are both single occupancy rooms and shared rooms available in a co-living space. Also, the bunk bed life works only when you’re on a budget-friendly vacay. But not when you wanna settle in a new city. Pretty stupid myth, don’t you think?
Yep, co-living spaces are perfect for digital nomads. And yes, they provide flexible rental tenures. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t any students or full-time working professionals living there. In fact, if you crunch the numbers, you’d find them in the majority. Basically speaking, co-living spaces are a one-for-all stay option. That means, unlike Seema Aunty, we got no interest in what you do and where you come from. Just tell us you need a place to stay and we’ll take care of the rest.
Well, this one holds true only if you compare it to an independent flat. Otherwise, it’s like any other hostel or PG. That is, you can either choose to stay cooped up in your room. Or simply chill and socialize with your fellow residents in the common area. That’s totally up to you and you only. 100 percent guaranteed.
Again, co-living spaces inherently have a fun vibe to attract youngsters. But that doesn’t mean they’re a big ‘no boomer’ zone. They’re just a super convenient place to stay where you can do more than just sleep, eat and repeat. You can have a community lifestyle too. But if you don’t want to, you can just sleep, eat and repeat. And with all your household chores being taken care of, you probably will. Lmao.
At first glance, an online listing of a co-living space may seem like it’s on the expensive side. But that’s just what you perceive if you just linger on the surface. Look closer and you’ll find they actually provide a lot more value-for-money than a lot of other places. For example, the extra 3k on the monthly rent may seem like a lot. But just for 3k, you get loads of amenities that you’d otherwise have to purchase or take on rent. And we all know how big of a hole that’ll burn in your pocket.
Contrary to popular belief, co-living spaces are actually a lot safer than your local PGs. The basic reason is that they’re managed by a professional organization. So they’re that much more accountable than your independent PG landlords. Like, imagine golgappa walas. The ones stationed in a restaurant chain are more likely to be wearing gloves than the ones stationed outside a park or in your neighborhood, isn’t that right? Just sayin’.
Last but not the least, for some reason, co-living spaces have got this impression of a party place. Although they’re a lot more fun to live in, (given the community events and entertainment options like pool tables), you can switch to your loner self whenever you wanna. And folks, just because someone’s fun doesn’t mean they are not serious. For proof, think of that cool college senior who’s the best at poking fun at teachers and manages to ace his academics at the same time.
