Restaurants in Mangalore are all about bringing some feel-good energy to your dull weekends. But we know what you’re thinking. Life in a touristy coastal city is supposed to be happening right? Well, not so much. If you work in one of those swanky office buildings with a view of excel sheets. Or listen to day-long lectures from your coaching profs instead of the sounds of the Arabian sea. So spending a fine evening at the best restaurants in Mangalore (with the view of the bright blue sea and starlit sky) will make you step into those touristy shoes again.

But hey, you still have to make time for that, don’t you? Yes. Even if you have deadlines to meet and a dozen test papers to solve. Which – let’s be real – is way harder if you’re new to the city with a billion daily chores to manage on the side. But don’t you worry, we’re here to help. Looking for a place with a chill common area? Stay tuned. Our residences in Mangalore are launching soon.

Machali Kodialbail

Few places can serve a delicious fish thali like the Machali. The thali comes with a portion of red rice, a thick Konkani style dal, and a curry made entirely from fish bones and spare cuts. Also, the restaurant is run by a Konkani family. So if you’re yet to get comfy with Mangalore food, then don’t worry, the good folks at Machali will make you feel right at home.

Must Try: Prawns Fry, Pomfret Masala Fry

Location:4-9-T 828/2, Brindavan Compound, Near Ocean Pearl, Kodailbail, Mangalore

Timings: 11.30 AM – 9.30 PM

Cost for Two (INR): ₹800/-

Palkhi Restaurant Balmatta Road

The Palkhi restaurant was named as one of the ‘best restaurants of India’ by NDTV. And for good reason. You’ll find a party hall for groups, an extensive bar menu, and of course, a rooftop for candlelight dinners. We recommend ordering their star mutton banarasi. Possibly tastier than any mutton dish you’ve ever tried before. And definitely spicier than even Ravish Kumar’s rants.

Must Try: Chicken Biryani, Mutton Benarasi

Location:D- 14-3-205, 206, 3 Floor, Tej Towers, Opposite Jyothi Cinema, Balmatta, Mangalore

Timings: 11 AM – 11 PM

Cost for Two (INR): ₹1200/-

Sizzler Ranch Beatle Apartment

The Sizzler Ranch is known for their perfectly cooked western cuisine. The signature dishes on their menu include the chicken sizzler, jalapeno balls, and the chicken shashlik. Plus, the staff always make sure everything is right on point. Funny how they’re located in the ‘Beatles’ apartment, but when it comes to attending to their customers, they don’t just answer with ‘let it be’. Lol sorry, we’re done here.

Must Try: Chicken Italiano, Chicken Bbq Wings

Location: 14-2-93/4, Balmatta Road, Hampankatta, Mangalore

Timings:11:30am – 3:30pm, 6pm – 10:30pm

Cost for Two (INR): ₹800/-

Thyme Family Restaurant Bejai Road

One of the best family restaurants in Mangalore, the Thyme is popular for its minimalist decor. Plus, you’ll love their wide range of cuisines. That too with a huge portion size. So they might be minimalist in their theme. But when it comes to filling your tummy to the brim, they assume you hold an appetite as large as the expectations of Indian parents during board exams.

Must Try: Jerk Chicken, Gulab Jamun

Location:4th Floor, Bharath Mall, Opposite KSRTC Bus Stand, Bejai Main Road, Lalbagh, Mangalore

Timings: 12 noon – 11 PM

Cost for Two (INR): ₹900/-

Maharaja Restaurant Hampankatta

The Maharaja Restaurant is a crowd-puller in Mangalore. Mostly because of its lip-smacking punjabi food and seating areas. While the indoors are simple and air-conditioned, the outdoors are peppy with chill winds letting you put your hair down. Both literally and figuratively. Also, they serve their food on gigantic brass crockery. Something that’ll make you wonder if they’re serving for you or, well, the Great Khali.

Must Try: Murgh Ghee Roast, Chicken Thali

Location: 1st Floor, Trade Centre, Near Jyothi Circle, Balmatta, Mangalore

Timings: Mon-Sun:11:30am – 3:30pm, 6:30pm – 10:30pm

Cost for Two (INR): ₹700/-

Gajalee Sea food Kadri Hills

Gajalee Sea Food has got more reasons for you to visit than anyone else on this list. Located on a gorgeous hill, the ambience is lovely with French style windows and white walls. And given their name translates to ‘heaven for seafood lovers’, the prawns, the clams, and the lobsters are all too delicious. So no surprises there.

Must Try: Crabs, Squid Ghee Roast

Location:Circuit House Compound, Opposite Kadri Police Station, Kadri, Mangalore

Timings:Mon-Sun:11 am – 3:30 pm, 6:30 pm – 11 pm

Cost for Two (INR): ₹750/-

Madhuvans Village Yayyadi

Located on the outskirts, the Madhuvans Village restaurant, Mangalore, offers a unique experience. It has five cottages, each with a theme of a rural village. The decor is lined with wooden items, mud pots and a thatched roof. Which, for sure, will remind you of the summer vacations spent at your grandfather’s ancestral home back in the day.

Must Try: Fish Tikka, Tandoori Paratha

Location:B-2-67/1, 1, Yeyyadi, Mallikatte, Mangalore

Timings: 11 am – 11 pm

Cost for Two (INR): ₹500/-

New Taj Mahal Cafe Kodailbail

Another one of the best veg restaurants in Mangalore is the New Taj Mahal cafe. Also, it happens to be one of the oldest in the city. Probably why you’ll find an old-school charm here. Only proved further by their expertise on South Indian dishes like idlis and dosa. Though we wonder why they decided to add a ‘new’ before their name. Kinda feels like how boomers try hard to keep upto date with the current trends. But in the ‘New’ Taj Mahal cafe’s case, that has clearly been a success.

Must Try: Mysore Butter Masala Dosa

Location:Door 4-9-822/1, Panchmahal Building, Kodailbail, Mangalore

Timings:6 am – 9:30 pm

Cost for Two (INR): ₹300/-

Bamboo Restaurant Kankanady

The Bamboo Restaurant is famous for using cooking techniques involving – well no points for guessing – bamboo. For example, you should try ordering their bamboo biryani. The chicken is cooked by stuffing it inside bamboo segments on top of burning charcoal. This infuses a taste of smokiness in the biryani that you’ll not find anywhere else. So if this is not tempting enough for you to visit this place, then we don’t know what is. Just sayin’.

Must Try: Bamboo Biryani, Mutton Biryani

Location:Bhoomika Tower, Bendoorwell Circle, Kankanady, Mangalore

Timings:1:30 pm – 11 pm

Cost for Two (INR): ₹700/-

Sagar Ratna KS Rao Road

If you’re searching for “mangalore restaurants near me”, then look no further than the Sagar Ratna Restaurant. They’re always packed with a crowd, mainly because of their mind-boggling paneer ghee roast. You’ll find this is the most popular thing – every local would boast about – in a casual conversation with a tourist. But after blabbering about the fact that SRK belongs from Mangalore.

Must Try: Ghee Roast Paneer, Filter Coffee, Tomato Soup

Location:Hotel Ocean Pearl, KS Rao Road, Near PVS Circle, Kodailbail, Mangalore

Timings: 7 am – 11 pm

Cost for Two (INR): ₹700/-
