It was supposed to be a short-term thing. But it’s been months now, and we’re still waking up every morning on our bed and taking a short trip to our office in our living room. 

And word has it that remote working is here to stay. So whether you like this new normal or not, you will need ways to balance your productivity and peace of mind.

1. Create A Designated Workspace 

It might be in your living room, as we mentioned earlier. Or you could turn that guestroom into your study. Wherever you might want it to be, your ‘home office’ should have a dedicated space, where you can work with dedication.

2. Get That Morning Routine Going

Wake up. Make your bed. Brush your teeth. Drink water. Meditate. Workout. Shower. Get to work. You can add, subtract, change the order, but make sure you have a morning routine that gets you in the groove, kick starts your day and ends with you starting your work. 

3. Set Boundaries With Your Roomies

“Till 6pm, I’ll stay in this room, you stay in that one.” Or any other kind of agreement with your roommate that works for you to ensure that both of you can stay in work mode till required. Not only will you be more productive, but you’ll also get done with work quicker. 

4. Communicate With Your Colleagues

This is an incredibly useful tip for those who like the socialising that happens at office spaces. A video call with a teammate to discuss work can be a welcome change from being alone with your thoughts. It’ll be like a quick recharge of your batteries so that you can attack the next set of presentations and spreadsheets with renewed energy.

5. Say No To Distractions

Now, there won’t be any boss looking over your shoulder to see if you’re being productive or just scrolling through memes on social media. While that is a welcome change, you still don’t want to go overboard with this new freedom. Using a zen mode on your phone, or even keeping it away for some time, will help you focus for an extended period on your work. 

To sum it up, while it has its advantages, work from home also comes with the responsibility of keeping yourself motivated throughout the day. And we get it if you don’t welcome commitment with open arms. Like, who even does, right?
